The Philadelphia Fed and the Healthcare Anchor Network (HAN) are cohosting the 2024 Anchor Economy Conference at the Independence Visitor Center in Philadelphia, May 15–16, 2024.

This event brings together healthcare and higher education institution leaders, community development practitioners, researchers, experts, and others to share and discuss anchor strategies and best practices, as well as potential public policy supports, that can help advance anchor collaboratives nationally.

Anchor Reliance in Regions: Research & Practice

  • Patrick T. Harker, Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia

Patrick T. Harker, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, will present the latest findings from the Philadelphia Fed’s Anchor Economy Initiative examining anchor reliance in regions across the United States over time.

Harker will join Ron Daniels, president of Johns Hopkins University, to discuss the practical ways this research can help inform how anchor institutions support and strengthen the cities and communities they serve. Elinor Haider, senior director for Pew Charitable Trust’s Philadelphia Program, will moderate this session.
