Pennsylvania’s Critical Access Hospitals (CAH)
The Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program in Pennsylvania has, for over fourteen years, been assisting the Critical Access Hospitals in the Commonwealth. The Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health (PORH) has led quality improvement, financial, and operational improvements, begun population health efforts, and partnered with the trauma/Emergency Medical Services (EMS) partners to bring effective and innovative programming that has strengthened the Critical Access Hospitals in Pennsylvania. The vision of PORH, as the health care landscape changes in Pennsylvania, is to strive to keep access to primary care services and improve the health of the rural population. The Critical Access Hospitals will play a major role in accomplishing this vision.
