About The Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health
The Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health was established at Penn State in 1991. It is a joint effort of the College of Health and Human Development and Penn State Outreach and Penn State Extension and is administratively located in the Department of Health Policy and Administration. The office is funded by the federal Office of Rural Health Policy of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and Penn State.
Objectives
The mission of the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health is to improve the health of rural communities and their residents throughout the Commonwealth by:
- Compiling, analyzing, and disseminating information to policy makers, health providers, health educators, and health administrators
- Strengthening the existing network of rural providers, planners, and advocates by encouraging partnerships and identifying opportunities for collaboration and cooperation
- Increasing interest in rural health needs, opportunities, and policy issues
- Acting as a liaison between academia, state government, professional associations, and the general public
To accomplish these objectives, the Pennsylvania Office of Rural Health coordinates its activities with many public and private health agencies including the following:
